If you can smell burning, see scorching or smoke, or an outlet or panel is hot to the touch, do not investigate it. Leave it alone, get people away from it, and call the fire service first if there is any smoke at all. Turning a breaker off is the only thing worth doing yourself, and only if you can reach the panel without passing the problem.

How quickly can somebody come out?
Most service calls are the same working day, and you get a real arrival window when the job is booked rather than a vague half-day. Anything involving heat, burning smells, scorching or a shock goes to the front of the queue.
Do you charge to come out and look?
There is a flat diagnostic fee for service calls, quoted before we book it, and it comes off the repair if you go ahead the same day. Quotations for planned work — panels, EV chargers, lighting plans, rewires — are free and come after a site visit rather than over the phone.
Is my electrical panel dangerous just because it is old?
Age alone decides very little. What matters is capacity, physical condition, whether there is space for the circuits the house now needs, and whether it happens to be one of the specific models with a documented history of breakers that fail to trip. Those are questions with factual answers, and you will get ours plainly rather than as a sales pitch.
Do I need a permit for electrical work?
For panel changes, service changes, new circuits, EV chargers and generator transfer switches, yes — that is inspected work. We file it and meet the inspector. Small repairs and device replacements generally are not. An unpermitted panel is the sort of thing that surfaces when a house is under contract.
