The cheapest devices in the house, in the places that matter most.
Receptacles and switches are the only electrical components most people ever touch, and they are the ones that wear out. A twenty-year-old outlet that no longer grips a plug is not a cosmetic problem — a loose connection is a heat source.
This is also where the two protective devices that matter most to people live. GFCI protection in wet locations, and tamper-resistant receptacles anywhere a small child might be. Both are cheap. Neither is optional in the places they belong.

Four things that get skipped on a fifteen-minute device swap and should not be.
We look at what is behind it
A device swap is the one moment anybody sees inside that box. If the connections are backstabbed, the box is overfilled or a splice has been made badly, that is worth knowing about while the plate is off.
Warm is never normal
A receptacle or switch that is warm to the touch, or a plug that feels hot when you pull it out, is a resistance problem. It gets replaced and the circuit gets a look — it is not something to keep an eye on.
Two-prong outlets have honest answers
An ungrounded circuit has three legitimate options, and one dishonest one. Fitting a three-prong outlet with no ground so that it looks modern is the dishonest one. We will explain the real options and what each costs.
GFCI gets tested, not assumed
Every one we fit gets tested with a tester rather than the button, and we show you which outlets downstream are now protected by it. That is the part nobody ever writes down and everybody later needs.

Flat rate per device, with a lower rate for additional devices on the same visit — most of the cost of a small job is being there. New circuits and anything that involves opening a wall are quoted before the work starts.

About outlets, switches & gfci
My outlet has two slots and no round hole. Is that dangerous?
Not inherently, but it means the circuit has no equipment ground, and anything you plug in that expects one is not getting the protection it was designed around. There are a few legitimate ways to deal with it depending on the circuit, and we will lay them out with the cost of each. The one thing that is not legitimate is fitting a three-prong outlet and leaving it ungrounded.
How often should GFCI outlets be tested?
Monthly is the usual recommendation, using the test button on the device — it should cut power, and reset should restore it. If a device does not trip when tested, or will not reset, it has failed and needs replacing. They do wear out, particularly outdoors.
Can you add an outlet where there is no wiring at all?
Usually. What decides the cost is the route rather than the outlet — a wall backing onto an unfinished basement or an accessible attic is straightforward, and one in the middle of a finished two-storey wall is not. We will tell you which you have before quoting it.
